It's best to have two types of games: the soft game and the hard game (the bang game.) If two people are behind the baseline banging the ball and two people are up at the kitchen, there is an 80% chance that the two people at the the kitchen will win the point.

Again, the team that gets to the kitchen first usually wins 80% of rallies.

One of the most important shots in pickleball is the "third shot," the serving team is at a disadvantage. The serving team must stay back at the baseline for the third shot and wait for the ball to bounce.

The serving team has three choices for the third shot:

1) Lob, often not successfully.

2) Bang the ball at the two people that are now at the kitchen, ready for the ball. Not the best, considering that 80% of points are won by the team that gets to the kitchen first.

3) The best choice for the third shot is the most important shot in pickleball, a light drop shot (a long dink) from the back baseline to the middle of your opponent's kitchen!

The return of serve should be slow, high and deep, preferably landing to the backhand of the opponent receiving the serve.

During rallies, don't go for sideline angles. Leave three feet on each side line.

Don't aim for your opponent's baseline, leave yourself six feet for a margin of error.
