From the USA Pickleball Association's
"Serving Basics"
The purpose of the serve (at the developing levels) is simply to place the ball in play and is not intended as an offensive weapon.

At club-level play, you'll often find a mix of players, from novices to advanced.
It's not unusual to see players firing difficult serves across the net.
If you are playing against opponents with a lesser skill level than yourself, it is considered a "Richard Move" to whack challenging serves. (Apologies to pickleball players named Richard.)
Playing against opponents with lesser skill is a great opportunity to practice restrained, precision ball placement.
No bullets during play, either.
Restrain yourself. Practice your finesse game. Gently aim for this spot or that spot.
A skill set that might come in handy in a tournament.
No overhead smashes at newbies. |
